the island of utopia
oil on canvas
101 x 80 cm
2015
Utopia could evoke restrictive ideological ‘readings’ of a possible predetermined future and at the same time it could represent an ideal non-existing place whose im-‘possible’ existence in the realm of painting attempts to expand the perception of our own ‘reality’.
This painting is about a journey to a dark, totalitarian utopia, a utopia which embraces rational historical determinism and yet... has its hidden sanctuary somewhere on an island.
The painting was shortlisted for the final exhibition of Lynn Painter-Stainers Prize 2017 - Mall Galleries, London.
